Flotilla 63 is headquartered in Poquoson, VA and is in the 5th District, Southern Region (5SR), Division 6.

About the US Coast Guard Auxiliary:

Congress established the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary in June 1939 to assist the Coast Guard with the promotion of boating safety.  The Flotilla is the non-military, volunteer arm of COAST GUARD FORCES, working alongside the Active Duty Coast Guard and Reserve within the sphere of the Coast Guard’s civil functions.  Auxiliarists continue to serve the needs of the boating public, with a focus on promoting safe boating practices to all recreational boaters.

The Auxiliary's primary missions, referred to as the "Four Cornerstones," are Recreational Boating Safety, Coast Guard and State Support, Member Services, and Fellowship.  Flotillas meet these missions through public education, vessel inspections, on the water patrols, distribution of safe boating information to marine dealers, and member support to various U.S. Coast Guard and Virginia activities throughout Hampton Roads.

Auxiliarists have no law enforcement authority and cannot be called to serve in military roles.  They wear uniforms, observe “good military manners," and represent the United States Coast Guard.  They furnish and maintain their own equipment, have the ability to receive extensive training and become qualified to U.S. Coast Guard standards.
